Barack Obama's comment about small-town America was poorly worded but true. It may have been the most important thing he has said in this entire campaign. If nothing else, the fact that he would make such a blunt statement proves that he is the true-blue candidate of the people. In American politics, everything has been so scripted to such a sickening extent for so long that we are shocked -- SHOCKED, I tell you -- when a candidate speaks words that are not pre-approved by 36 consultants.
The glee with which the other candidates and their lackeys have jumped on this story will come back to bite them in the ass one way or the other. Mark my words.
Obama said in San Francisco that people in small-town America, especially the Midwest, were bitter since their local economies have been devastated, and that they "cling" to religion and guns to ease their pain. As stated, this is not entirely true. Religion and guns are part of life in rural America and have been for a long, long time.
But what he meant was that those issues -- gun control, reproductive rights, prayer in school -- are exploited by politicians to divide people and distract them from the real issue: the economic decimation of their communities. This is not a rationalization of Obama's words. This is how the candidate himself explained it; it's great that he didn't capitulate. He stuck to his guns.
"The underlying truth of what I said remains, which is simply that people who have seen their way of life upended because of economic distress are frustrated and rightfully so," he told the North Carolina newspaper. "And I hear it all the time when I visit these communities."
"The underlying truth...remains."
Yup. Ironic that the other candidates have blasted the comment as "elitist" and "out of touch." They have proven themselves to be elitist and out-of-touch if they don't know just how much piss and vinegar there is out here in Realmerica. These people truly live in a bubble. With the "bitter" remark, Obama has proved that he is listening and that he is very much in touch with what people are feeling. Here in Realmerica, we can't make a decent living anymore. We can't see a doctor when we get sick, and if we do see a doctor who finds out that we are really sick, we end up going bankrupt. Here in Realmerica, we can barely afford to get ourselves to work and heat our houses. Here in Realmerica, we're dealing with all kinds of bullshit, and yeah, we're bitter about it. So fuck you elitist politicians and pundits for calling Obama elitist. Y'all don't know D*** about what's going on here in the real world. While the Clintons were stacking $109 mil over the past six years, most of the rest of us were getting our asses kicked economically.
Let me put it this way: While we were being suckered into getting emotionally evolved with the idea that the big bad gubmint was coming for our guns -- or getting pissed off at hard-working immigrants, or getting in a tizzy about gay marriage -- a bunch of rich guys were robbing us blind, getting a lot of us killed and maimed, shipping our jobs to China, and destroying our very way of life. Damn straight we're bitter. Isn't it great to hear a candidate who's not afraid to upset the apple cart, who will speak directly to the real issues!
Billary made $109 million for making appearances while the rest of us busted our asses for peanuts. The jig is up.
Bitter? If anything, it's an understatement. The politicians and pundits accusing Obama of being "elitist" had better realize just how close they are to a guillotine-style reaction to their Let Them Eat Cakeism. They'd better hope somebody like Obama does take the reins, somebody who listens to regular folks, many of whom are prepping their pitchforks for castle duty.
GooooObama!
