Let's Get Movin' by CharlieHipHop

This one is adventurous for me. It takes me out of my element on a lot of levels.

Lyrically, it's a hat tip to the dirty old bluesmen of yore, sort of a "Good Mornin' Little Schoolgirl" thing. It's supposed to sound sinister, and it does! I ain't apologizin' for my highly functional man tool, a'ight!

Musically, there's a lot going on here. It forced me to play in ways I hadn't played.

The bass line (really a guitar line pitch shifted down) is the anchor of the song. It's played on some sort of non-standard minor scale, and it was recorded before the guitar tracks which made the guitar challenging. Another challenge with the guitar was getting it to sound like a guitar. A first track just wouldn't sound right no matter what effects I slathered on it. Finally, I ended up just playing through a good ol' fashioned amp into a mic. Kept the original track and put it in there subtly. A third guitar track was acoustic, a flamenco-ish thing that just didn't fit at all, so I sliced one bar out of it and threw it in a random points just to make it silly. All one-take deals, as always; not one track was played that wasn't included, and not one track included was played more than once.

Engineering-wise, this one is very interesting. You'll have a very different experience listening in phones or speakers, and it sounds a lot different on different systems. I played with the limits of human hearing -- there's a lot there that you don't necessarily hear consciously (don't worry, no sneaky subliminals or anything like that). You'll notice it's a bit bassier in speakers. Sounds awesome in a car.

The crappy .mp3 format took a lot away from it, and this file is not mastered so you'll have to turn it way up to get anywhere near the full effect. Will sound phenomenal in full mastered audio on CD.

Enjoy.

Recorded using only my favorite Strat (affiliate link)
and
your basic condenser mic (affiliate link)

and a computer.

Will write/play/record 4 Food

Feel free to donate two bucks. It's good karma. Thanks!
