Like any other website administrator, I check my error logs every once in a while. Lately I'm getting some strange errors that lead me to conclude that someone at Google is mean and nasty or at least extremely bored. Over the past month or so, the Googlebot has come by Chumpy's old site looking for stuff that was never there. Most of these non-existent pages are mean-sounding. It's a bit creepy. The logs don't lie. Read 'em and weep:

66.249.66.243 sounds familiar, could it be? Yup, that's Google, alright.
Why in the heck would the Googlebot be looking for a page called "/terdiman_rosedale_resume/"? It's like they're mocking the old /chumpy_langosta_resume/ page.
Then there was this one:

talking_urinal? Someone at Google regards me as a talking urinal? I don't see any other way to take that. Maybe I'm just sensitive.
Then of course there was this one, one of my favorites:

super_guinea_pig? That one's actually kind of flattering. I mean, if you're going to be somebody's guinea pig, you might as well be a super one, right?
There were others. website_crash was clever. Another weird slightly harassing action from Google is that I can no longer get to my homepage, google.com, from my home computer -- I get redirected to google.es which is fine so far as it goes, but I know that stuff like that doesn't happen by accident. What gives? I'd like to think it's just one underworked Google employee with personality issues, but in my more paranoid moments, I have to wonder if other Bush critics have endured similarly unsettling events.
It's always a bit disturbing, being harassed by some geek on a power trip, but it's bound to happen in cyberspace. When the geek happens to work for Google, it's more disturbing, though. Unlike the average rambunctious teenaged hacker, those people are smart. They can do serious damage. My pain and suffering over this are substantial, especially after all the good things I've written about Google.
WTF? Somebody at Google needs a project, apparently -- and a serious attitude adjustment.

Another
Another possibility...
...maybe the logs do lie. Someone could have accessed the account and doctored the logs themselves... or spoofed and identified as the googlebot.
That still wouldn't explain the redirection from google.com to google.es. Hard to see how that could be accomplished without access to google's servers. Even then, it's possible (not bloody likely, but possible) that Google's been h4x0r3d.
My money's still on some jerk at the Googleplex.
